Things to do in Austin, TX

Known as the Live Music Capital of the World, Austin offers a variety of music and arts venues, restaurants, and outdoor activities to suit whatever you’re seeking. Whether you’re spending the post-conference weekend in Austin or just looking for something to do Friday afternoon, here are our recommendations!

Eats and Drinks

  • Terry Black’s Barbecue
Terry Black’s Barbecue is a staple of the Texas BBQ world. Boasting a 4.7 star rating from over 15,000 Google Reviews, a meal at this casual Austin pit-stop is worth the wait.
  • Chuy's
While this Tex Mex chain now spans nearly 100 locations nationwide, Chuy’s got its start in an abandoned barbecue joint on Barton Road in Austin. They’re known for their “big as yo’ face” burritos, proving that everything is, in fact, bigger in Texas.
  • Suerte
Led by the visionary Chef Fermin and his talented team, Suerte harmoniously combines authentic Mexican culinary techniques with locally-sourced ingredients. For a light pick-me-up, be sure to try their Carajito, a dinner cocktail featuring run, fernet, branca menta, cold brew, and spiced cocoa bitters.
  • Batch Craft Beer & Kolaches
While traditional Czech kolaches are fruit-filled, Texan kolaches are typically filled with meat and cheese. Batch serves both savory and sweet kolaches, as well as tacos, burritos, and a vast selection of craft brews.
  • Zanzibar
If you’re familiar with our past property management conference guides, you know we love a good rooftop bar. Zanzibar offers a jungle-themed rooftop oasis in downtown Austin — and the best part? If you booked a room in the Austin Marriott Downtown through IMN, it’s just an elevator ride away!
  • The Peached Tortilla
The Peached Tortilla offers a selection of modern Asian comfort food with a Southern twist. If you’re looking for dinner the night before the conference begins, be sure to stop in for Fried Chicken and Whiskey Wednesday from 5pm-9pm.
  • Wheatsville Food Co-Op
The Wheatsville Food Co-Op deli counter serves up some of the best vegetarian and vegan options in Austin! Their Frito pie is a plant-based rendition of a Southern classic, and their popcorn tofu po’boy can be made with cashew tamari dressing or buffalo-style for a spicy twist.
  • Texas Chili Parlor
What would a trip to the Lone Star State be without a hot bowl of Texas’ state dish? Stop into Texas Chili Parlor for a selection of 5 different types of chili along with burgers, chili dogs, and other sandwiches. Fun fact: this Austin staple was featured in Quentin Tarantino’s 2007 film Death Proof!
  • Olmaie
Olmaie promises a delicious rotating seasonal menu of Southern fare elevated by farm-fresh ingredients & modern plating. If you’re interested trying this spot for brunch, be sure to make a reservation and to order the off-the-menu biscuits served with a side of honey butter.
  • Banger’s Sausage House & Beer Garden
Visit Banger’s to enjoy house-made sausages with over 200 beers on tap. They promise a vibe that’s “Not too rowdy, not too laid back, just a good old fashioned good time.” If sausage and beer isn’t your thing, they have a wide array of apps including fried cheese curds, warm German potato salad, and jalapeno cheddar mac and cheese. If you’re looking for live music in a chill, outdoor venue, this is the place to spend the post-conference weekend.

Attractions

  • PBR Gambler Days — August 25th through 27th
If you’re in town for the weekend after the conference, check out PBR Gambler Days at Moody Center to see the world’s best bull riders compete and represent Austin in the PBR Team Series. Ticket prices range from $25 to $130 — grab ‘em on the Moody Center website
  • Bat Fest — August 26th
